A native of Philadelphia, I’ve been enamored with the Village of Pinehurst since 2008, when my parents bought a beautiful classic revival home on the fourth hole of No. 1. Sitting on the back porch and watching the sulkies run every morning during training season, I instantly knew Pinehurst was a special place.

I married the love of my life under the soaring ceilings of the Village Chapel in November 2014, and we danced the night away with friends and family at the Fair Barn. Before we headed back to DC the next day, I posed my new wedding ring alongside my favorite chicken-salad-on-a-croissant from Koley. Even then, I swore one day I would make this place my forever home.

Seven years later, when certain global occurrences allowed my little family to sell our house in Utah and work from anywhere, Pinehurst was the only place we knew we wanted to plant our roots.

And here we are.

Since the day we found our forever home in the Village, and every day thereafter, I have fallen more in love with this special place. There is truly nowhere else I’d rather be, and I spend each day thanking God for the blessing it is to live here.

And as a third-generation resident of sorts, I want to make sure this place stays just as magical for my son as he grows up alongside its pines and (hopefully) one day chooses to come back and help maintain its legacy for future generations.

If you feel the same way I do, let’s work together to make sure our little village maintains the idyllic charm and history that attracted us to its sandy streets in the first place, while ensuring we grow responsibly and serve our citizens — both present and future.

I am personally on a mission to preserve the future of Pinehurst, and I hope you’ll join me.

Gratefully,

Cara Mathis
Candidate for Pinehurst Village Council
